Exponential Roadmap Initiative launched an updated version of the 1.5° Business Playbook on 19 September at Solutions House during Climate Week NYC.

The 1.5°C Business Playbook is for CEOs, board members, business leaders and employees who want to align with the 1.5°C ambition through concrete action. Focusing on simplicity and speed, the playbook contains solid guidelines for setting climate targets, strategies, transition plans, taking action and disclosing results.

This new version comes at a time when time is running out to end the fossil economy. But it also comes at a time when economic tipping points have already been crossed for renewable energy and electric vehicles. This momentum means it is likely that the decade to 2030 will see the fastest economic transition in history. It presents a huge market opportunity for transformative and disruptive companies in the front line.

The 1.5°C Business Playbook version 3.0 is built around the four pillars of climate action that companies need to include in their business strategies. Pillar 3 now reflects the need for companies to provide and scale climate solutions and recommends actions that companies can take to set targets to shift their portfolio towards solutions. The updated Playbook sets out initial criteria to define climate solutions, in addition to giving examples for forward-looking key performance indicators (KPIs) companies should use and report on just as for financial or other corporate metrics. Tracking and reporting future aligned KPIs in harmonized formats will aid investors to steer investments in line with sectorial 1.5°C aligned pathways.
