Who the Climate Performance Review is for
Exponential Roadmap Initiative’s Climate Performance Reviews (CPRs) are the basis for decisions about whether a company can join or remain in the initiative. The CPR is conducted both prior to a company joining the initiative, and at least once every two years thereafter.
Exponential Roadmap Initiative is an accredited partner of the Race to Zero campaign, which is led by the UN Climate Change High Level Champions. As such, companies joining Exponential Roadmap Initiative may also join the Race to Zero. The Climate Performance Review uses the Race to Zero criteria as a minimum baseline – expecting companies to aim even higher.
How the Climate Performance Review works
The Climate Performance Review assesses a company’s status vis-à-vis around 60 climate actions listed in the 1.5°C Business Playbook, which are updated regularly in line with best practice. The process was developed in consultation with the Expert Peer Review Group, which advises the Race to Zero campaign.
Using the Climate Performance Review as a strategic tool
The Climate Performance Review (CPR) is a valuable tool for accelerating member companies’ climate action and for enabling wider development and scaling of best practice.
The review ranks current performance at five levels, from “not started” to “leading”. This enables companies to identify key gaps and opportunities, and to track progress year-to-year.
Climate Performance Reviews build on publicly available information with details and gaps filled in by companies. The reviews remain confidential between Exponential Roadmap Initiative and the respective member company. The one-on-one process allows companies to identify perspectives not previously explored. It allows Exponential Roadmap Initiative experts and member companies to see how each company ranks against other members in each area of climate action, and to identify areas in which companies need solutions, guidance and support.
