THE EXPECTATIONS FOR A COMPANY TO ALIGN TO NET ZERO IS EVOLVING
The landscape of net-zero standards is evolving but still focuses largely on decarbonising a company’s operations. But, the influence and impact of companies extend far beyond this.
LEADING COMPANIES ARE LOOKING TO NEW LEVERS FOR ACCELERATING CLIMATE ACTION BEYOND THEIR OPERATIONS
Corporations shape systems, markets and policies through their products, investments, and engagement, reflected as Pillar 3, 4 and 5 of the Exponential Framework. These are some of the most powerful levers that companies have for accelerating real-world climate action.
Yet today, these levers sit largely unrecognised and outside our definitions of “climate leadership”.
The Five Pillars of the Exponential Framework
THE ACCOUNTABILITY GAP
It’s time to recognise and elevate the companies that go further.
We must continue to recognise and celebrate companies that do the minimum (and so much more) to achieve their net zero-aligned transition plan.
In 2025,
BUILT ON AN OBJECTIVE METHODOLOGY
Drawing on objective public data (Net Zero Tracker, WBA, CDP and LobbyMap) from across the world’s largest 2,000 businesses according to the Net Zero Tracker, we recognise a list of the top ~200 companies with the most credible targets and plans that score highly across the minimum commonly accepted criteria for alignment with net zero.
The standardised minimum assessment looks at whether companies SCORE well on:
- Short-Term Targets and Action
- Coverage of Emissions Across Scopes
- Outlined Plans and Transition Efforts
- Reporting Mechanisms and Transparency
- End Targets and Science-Based Timelines
Pulling from this pool of companies that meet the minimum net zero criteria, we will further recognise and reward those demonstrating outstanding and system changing impact in action areas across Exponential Business Playbook Pillars 3, 4 and 5.
RECOGNISING CLIMATE ACTIONS
As a first pass, we have identified leading companies that are continuing to stay in the race to the top for corporate resilience and the climate. In the next phase, we will evaluate how these companies are translating their commitments into action leadership across the Framework. Those demonstrating outstanding, system-changing impact, both and and outside their operations, will be recognised at a formal high-profile ceremony.
This recognition is to celebrate the next step of corporate leadership.
